Caught without my camera
Been quiet on the blog front recently partly due to a lot of commitments and partly because I've been in Fez. This time a friend came along, but more of that in a later post.
The work on the dar is progressing nicely with all the cabling in for the re-wire, all plumbing pipes tucked away under the render, and the zelliji all revved up and ready to go with numerous bags of tiles.
The plasterer had begun in the very top room and his work looks good. Once he gets going, the appearance of the place will change rapidly as the ugly grey render and all the pipes and conduits get buried beneath a sea of gleaming white.
The costs will start escalating as we get the zellij, air-con and all the other fixtures and fitting together. The trip was good to get an idea of the prices of beds, bogs (toilets) and taps (faucet's if your from USA). We can finally start getting excited about marble work-tops, curtains and carpets. Having said that, I still find it hard to get to worked up about a pair of curtains.
The only problem I had during this visit was getting my camera stolen at the Sunday souk. I was warned about thieves there, but when they struck, all three of us in the car were dumbfounded. One second it was on the dashboard, a minute later it had gone, despite us all being in the car. We worked it out. As we drove away from our parking space and paid the attendant, a guy had run along Louis' side and tapped on the car and we all looked to the left. There must have been someone else running on the other side who deftly stuck his hand in and grabbed the camera.
But I remained philosophical, after all a camera is just an object and can easily be replaced, unlike membership of the Purple Circle.
So at present there aren't any new images to show although I'm hoping to get some emailed over that I took on Louis' camera. In the meantime, I'll refer you to an image snapped by a keen Aussie fella I drank wine with.
