Flights from London to Fez

I was about to do a post about the (lack of) direct flights from London to Fez, when I noticed the inactive-of-late blog, The View From Fez, had the same idea.

Ryanair has cancelled (hopefully temporarily) their service from London-Luton as of last November. GB Airways (currently part of British Airways but soon to be owned by Easyjet) are flying to Fez until 29 March 2008, although it seems Easyjet have no plans to continue this route when they take over.

The View From Fez mentions the Royal Air Maroc service which costs around £200.

I have been looking at getting to Fez with the family at Easter and found the cheapest and quickest way would still be Ryanair from London-Stansted to Barcelona (Girona), and then on to Fez, again on Ryanair. Depending on your travelling dates, this can be done with a short 2-4 hour stop in Girona.

Considering the usual two stage trip with Royal Air Maroc from London-Heathrow via Casablanca to Fez, the Ryanair option seems good value as the prices can be around £120 per person. There is also another Ryanair option of taking the London-Stansted/Frankfurt/Fez route, although this has a slightly longer travel time and flight from Fez to Frankfurt arrive late at arounf 11pm so a hotel would be needed for overnight.

Lets hope direct flights are resumed after the end of March. If anyone has information regarding this , please get in touch.

You know in the end I think its probably cheaper and faster if you add up the waiting in all these transits to fly straight to Casa and taxi to Fes....thats what we do everytime. And if there are a few in your family its heaps cheaper!

it usually costs 1200 dirham but we get a driver we know from fes to pick us up...have his number if you want!
If you just get a cab from airport they can charge up to 1500, depends on your haggling ability...mine is crap!.
This includes all the highway fees.
4 hours to Bab Rcif from Casa airport
I know others take the train but hey?!!

I have been looking for a flight after March. It sounds GB is going to stop but i am not sure because they are creating more flights and i heard that easyjet is going to fly from London to Tangier...There is a big competition between the air companies. I met a staff from an air company who told me it will be more flights to Morocco...including Fez and Tangier after March 2008. Let's see.I will let you know as soon as i get any news about it.

Hey, I just spoke to Easyjet and after 30 mins pushing them they confirmed that the Fez route from Gatwick has been approved and will start April 08. We shoudl start seeing the route appear on their website over the next 2 weeks

Well John, that sounds very good indeed, we need an official announcement from Easyjet to that effect. Good work, hope you reversed the charges!
